STATE LEGISLATION

SB 2052  Sponsor:  Senator William Haine / Rep. Beiser

Status:  House Env. & Eng            IADD Position:  Oppose

Senate Bill 2052, Amendment  amends the Illinois Drainage Code and threatens the local control of drainage and levee districts.  Although on the surfaces as an IADD member you may feel the legislation only effects the levee and drainage districts in Monroe, Madison, and St. Clair counties but in reality the proposed legislation sets precedent for County Control of the districts.  IADD is asking all drainage and levee districts to call your  legislators especially your Senator and explain what county control of your district would mean.  This bill is on third reading in the Senate and could be voted on soon.  The last page of the Action Alert is handout you can print and present to your legislator.

FEDERAL LEGISLATION

ACTION ALERT
H.R. 2421/S. 1870 Federal Clean Water Act

These proposed changes would fundamentally change the Federal Clean Water Act and how it affects farmers' operations. With this simple change, the Federal Government would regulate nearly every wet area. The removable of the term "Navigable Waters" from the 1972 Clean Water Act greatly expands the scope of areas and activities covered by federal regulations. As a result, landowners would need a permit for routine farming practices and opens up all farmers to lawsuits from any citizen.

IADD Opposes the legislation as introduced. Please Contact your US Congressmen today and explain how these changes could lead to unnecessary red tape and extra paperwork . Click on the IADD Action Alert and Fact Sheets for more details and contact information.
